Valve Actuation
Most Valco valves can be ordered with any of the following: manual handle, air actuator, standard electric actuator, or microelectric actuator.
Manual Actuation
A direct handle provides a manual means of valve switching when automation is unnecessary.
An optional position feedback is available for most versions.

Air Actuator
An air actuator provides an intrinsically safe, dependable means of automating valve switching.
Compressed air or nitrogen is typically used to power the actuator, which usually requires from 40-80 psi gas pressure for operation.
With our HSSA (high speed switching accessory), an air actuator can provide valve switching times of less than 30 msec, and as fast as 8 msec with helium. The standard air actuator operates in a range from ambient to 70°C.
The high temperature version (for use at 50°-175°C) is required if the actuator will be located in a heated zone.
An optional position feedback, which provides contact closures in each position, is available for the standard air actuator.
The recommended method for implementing a two position air actuator requires an MSVA (manifold solenoid valve assembly), which is a block- mounted pair of 3-way solenoids that sends a pulse of air to switch the actuator from position to position.

Standard Electric Actuator
The standard electric actuator is a complete system providing an efficient and reliable means of valve switching.
The actuator can be controlled manually with a switch on the manual interface or automatically with the remote interface cable. 110 VAC and 24 VDC versions are available.
RS-232 communication with the electric actuator requires the SVI (serial valve interface), which provides control for up to
4 two position and 2 multiosition electrically actuated valvews.

Microelectric Actuator
The microelectric actuator provides sophisticated valve switching capabilities, including exclusive stall-sensing circuitry
which eliminates problems associated with valve/actuator misalignment.
Less than half the size of the standard electric actuator, the microelectric actuator operates on 24 VDC power and is microprocessor controlled. A universal (110/230 VAC) power supply is included.
Like the standard electric actuator, it can be operated manually with the controller assembly or automated with momentary contact closures or 5 VDC logic signals.
The microelectric actuator features a built-in RS-232 serial port to send and receive information from a computer (RS-485 optional)

Standoff Assemblies
When a valve and actuator are to be located in the same zone, a close mount assembly is used to couple the valve and actuator.
If a valve must be installed in a different zone than the actuator or manual handle (such as within a column oven or valve enclosure), a standoff assembly is used to separate the valve from the actuator. Isolation of the valve from a process system can also be achieved this way. The standoff is a 5/8" (16 mm) diameter extension with a drive shaft turning within it.
Standoff assemblies are available in 2", 3", 4", and 6" lengths. Other lengths can be special ordered at additional cost.

Right Angle Drive
Some installations dictate that the valve and actuator cannot be installed in the typical in-line configuration.
The RAD (right angle drive) is a 90° gearbox which permits the actuator or handle to be installed at  a right angle to the valve.
The RAD fits all Valco electric and air actuators.
