NOTE :
Graphite is generally preferred for MOST GC applications
* Tolerances on ID are far more critical compared to Graphite Ferrules
  • Please check your actual column OD size before ordering
  • Fused Silica capillary columns OD's DO vary from one column manufacturer to another.
  • Graphite/PI is extremely hard (relatively non-squashable) and a close fit ( no more than 0.002" oversize ) is necessary, particularly so with the "short" HP ferrule with it's blunt profile.
Above measurements relate to Fused Silica columns produced by Restek
General
Chromalytic Technology actually machines Graphite/Polyimide ferrules in order to obtain the maximum precision - Other "moulded" ferrules do not necessarily have the accuracy or the variation in profile or size that may be required for custom applications
We will machine ferrules to YOUR specifications including reducing ferrules

the Polyimide used by CT is a similar polymer to Vespel. 15% graphite material is preferred as it is harder and less likely to jam in fittings compared to softer 40% graphite material
Vespel and Graphite / Vespel ferrules are also supplied by Chromalytic Tech from Restek
( see latest Restek catalog for details )

Graphite/Polyimide is very hard and will squash down max of
0.05mm (0.002"  )

Graphite will squash
0.25mm (0.010" easily)

CHECK you column OD with a micrometer
IF in doubt !

Graphite/Polyimide - Do up finger-tight - then requires 1/2 turn with spanner . Feel is relatively progressive until max pressure with short spanners ( Go by feel until silica in ferrule doesn't slip )
Note : the silica is almost impossible to break inside the ferrule

NEW ! 2005 Graphite/Polyimide now in SHORT Version ( similar to Agilent short GFs )
Works perfectly in standard Swagelok 1/16" Nut - Price 25% less use eg Cat# SF0.4VG
