The Ultra family of HPLC packings is bonded and end-capped at maximum density on 3m and 5m, 100, pure, Type B silica particles.The high-percentage carbon and phase coverage provides heightenedsolute retention, which makes these packings ideal for liquidchromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) applications. Allure
Unique bonding chemistry and 60 Type B silica particles set the Allure family of HPLC packings in acategory by themselves for LC/MS column technology. Research and development of these phases have concentrated on obtaining maximum retention for analytes based on their functional group moieties, without compromising quality and reproducibility. The research evolved into the formulation of three superior products - Allure C18, Allure Basix, and Allure Acidix columns - that target four classes of analytes as diagrammed above. Allure C18 columns contain maximum bonded phase coverage with 27% carbon load, and superior retention of neutral to slightly polar mixtures including steroids, pesticides, and synthetic intermediates. It also has been found to separate all 14 EPA Method 8330 explosives (the method calls for two columns to accomplish this) in less than 10 minutes.
The Allure Basix column is designed to separate compounds containing amine(s) moiety, with maximum retention. This characteristic is ideal for analyzing many pharmaceutical products.

The Allure Acidix columns provide maximum retention and selectivity of analytes with carboxylic, phosphoric, sulfonic, and other acid group functionalities. This column also stands alone in providing excellent peak shape and retention for amino acids, without the need for derivatization. Furthermore, the Allure Acidix column retains the more difficult, highly polar solutes, where C18 phases fail to perform. The Ultra IBD phase contains unique bonding chemistry and performs well with all target classes. This intrinsically basedeactivated (IBD) phase contains a polar group within a hydrocarbon chain, which participates in the retention and separation process. It also assists in deactivating the silica surface to reduce peak tailing of strong basic analytes.
The Allure Basix, Allure Acidix, and Ultra IBD packings can be used in both normal phase (NP) and reverse phase (RP) mode (Figure 2). Even with traditional reverse phase solvents (e.g., water:acetonitrile), these packings behave as both NP and RP, depending on the solvent ratio. This offers a tremendous advantage in LC/MS separations where high organic/less aqueous mobile phase content is desirable. More organic can be added to the mobile phase, yet the compounds will actually increase in retention. This retains the solutes away from the solvent front to prevent solvent interference, while simultaneously increasing the MS sensitivity. We have already seen increased LC/MS sensitivities of more than 250% using this concept!
