Simple 3-Step Procedure

  • (1) Extract: Place ILE Cap on sample-containing vessel. Invert vessel such that sample is directly exposed to immobilized solvent (polymer), allowing targeted compounds to partition between the two phases based on their relative affinities for each. Agitate vessel to accelerate the partitioning process by disrupting a boundary layer that forms at the sample-polymer interface. Continue this process until equilibrium is reached or nearly reached.

  • (2) Back-Extract: Remove ILE Cap from sample vessel, tap off any residual liquid, and place it on suitable back-extraction vial that contains a small amount of method-appropriate solvent -- a suitable back-extraction vial permits the recovery of analytes from small volumes of solvent. Invert vial to allow contact between solvent and analyte-enriched polymer. Compounds partition between polymer and solvent in accord with their relative affinities for each. The partitioning process is accelerated by agitating the vessel, and is allowed to occur until equilibrium is reached or nearly reached.

  • (3) Analyze: The remaining solvent in the back-extraction vial may be immediately analyzed by GC or HPLC, or archived for later analysis.

ILE Cap Cat#s

  • The Immobilized Liquid Extraction (ILE) Cap is a regular bottle or vial cap with a siloxane-elastomer coated septum.
  • ILE Caps utilize their immobilized elastomer coating to extract organic compounds from complex aqueous matrices such as waste water, urine, or serum while ignoring interferants.
  • ILE Caps have been designed to utilize beneficial aspects of other sample preparation procedures while avoiding their numerous shortcomings.
